Wow.. the impact you can make on an atheist!

Check out this video from Penn Jillette (of Penn and Teller fame) who is a confessing atheist. Once you view the vid, make sure to read the commentary below by Mark Cahill.

From Mark Cahill: There are just so many interesting points to his video. Did you catch that the guy who witnessed to him wasn‘t at the show that night? That means he went home after a show, and was burdened for Penn‘s soul. He got a Gideon‘s Bible and wrote some information in it, and returned to the theatre another time to talk with Penn. That spoke volumes to this lost person. It showed that this man cared. (more…)

Go to the other side of the street!

Tampa SkylineHonestly, the Superbowl outreach was a circus. There were so many evangelists there; it was difficult to get in an intimate one2one conversation without someone else running up and interrupting. We were in Ybor City the second night; the sun was too bright for me, but I noticed on the other side of the street it was shady without too many people walking around. I asked my partner Debbie if she would walk with me on the other side of the street. It was very cold, in the shade; hence the lack of pedestrians. We passed a couple of scientologists passing out booklets stating ”The path to happiness” was in them.  Debbie stopped to ask the man, “Why do you believe this pamplet to be true?”  He immediately went into a defensive posture, both hands up and said, “I believe what I believe, you believe what you believe and let us leave it at that.” All of the sudden, something stood up inside of me (this is the only way to describe the feeling) and took notice. The night of encouragement!!!

When I got to the family worship room at Calvary Chapel St. Pete for prayer before we went out on the streets to witrness Friday night, there were only 3 people there. I was immediately discouraged! I thought… what a nice night, why aren’t there more laborers in the field? They were some really good friends of mine there however. Mike, who goes to the courthouse every week to preach the gospel, and Joshua, our original tractinator, who has recently returned from Patmos.

I was encouraged when one by one as we prayed, God’s solders trickled in to a little bigger army of 14 by the time we were done. Like any one in a band of solders, I looked around and I thought, it’s a good crew, a good mix of God’s people who made themselves available to whatever the night might bring. (more…)

An Evangelist Walk

Evangelist WalkOne of the biggest battles in an evangelist walk is discouragement. As I have surfed secular television and read secular books, the blinded world out there seems oh so large. The mountains are tall and I am just me. The weight of the unbelief seems to fall on me like a ton of bricks.

I like to encourage myself with the Truth contain in the scriptures…”the battle is the Lords”, and “it is not by my might, but the Lord God is mighty in battle and goes before me”. But my evangelist friends, it is a battle, and there is laboring involved.

I was walking down the brightly lit halls this morning of Manatee Memorial Hospital, and through the lobby and there was a 42 inch high definition television showing some really creepy cartoons in big color. The modern cartoons the enemy has laid on children’s small minds are dark and malicious. I was aghast. The weight of another brick on my heart. (more…)

The Good-O-Meter

Someone sent this to me the other day – a little lighthearted, but good illustration of the amazing GRACE that is available in Jesus. The original can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrLzYw6ULYw in case you want to email it to someone.

How can the Bible be trusted?

A friend recently emailed me and asked me how to respond to someone who is asking in essence “How can the Bible be trusted – there’s so many translations?”

Here was my response (edited slightly for the blog):

For someone to imply that the Bible (God’s Word) has been corrupted in the modern English translations, simply manes that they are uniformed. Haven’t done much homework on the topic.

The English Bible has been translated ONCE… from the orignal languages the Bible was wirtten in (Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic) into ENGLISH. Best I can tell, that’s one language translation to the other – not a whole bunch of times. Most contemporary English Bibles can be trusted (not all – some have been intentionally corrupted).  I “personally” prefer the translations that attempt a word for word translations like the ESV or NASB because they are more suited for word studies. But the thought for thought Bibles still communicate God’s Truth just the same (like the NIV) and are the preferance of many others. (more…)

A Site to Send Non-Christians To

Team Harvest is in the process of developing a website that is being design for Non-Christians and those that aren’t quite sure if they are Christians.

It is called GetAnswersNow.org

The thought is this. To design a site where we can point Non-Christians when we are out street evangelizing. A place where they can go to get the truth in love about Jesus Christ and Christianity in the comfort of their own home. We are really excited about it and would encourage you to check it out and let us know how we can improve it. Our intention is to put this link everywhere. Teeshirts, custom tracts, maybe even bumper sticker.

Into His Marvelous Light

This is by far one of my favorite YouTube videos of all time. I would imagine that some of you have already seen it. Maybe multiple times. I think everyone should watch it at least once a month – it’s that good. Especially if like me, the Lord has rescued you from a crazy past. From out of darkness into His marvelous light. Thank you Jesus!

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. -1 Peter 2:9
